Neil Finn Replaces Lindsey Buckingham In Fleetwood Mac

by Paul Cashmere on April 10, 2018

Neil Finn has confirmed that he has joined Fleetwood Mac after the dumping of Lindsey Buckingham from the band.

“Snow warnings for parts of the country, the mystery of Stonehenge solved and yes I’ve joined Fleetwood Mac,” Neil tweeted today.

Whispers of Buckingham’s departure began after another former guitarist Billy Burnette tweeted on April 4 “Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I’m not in.”

Fleetwood Mac have replaced Buckingham with two guitarists, Finn as well as Mike Campbell from The Heartbreakers.

In a joint statement the members of Fleetwood Mac said:

“We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs.”

“Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour.”

“Lindsey Buckingham will not be performing with the band on this tour. The band wishes Lindsey all the best.”

Mike Campbell worked with Stevie Nicks on her debut solo record ‘Bella Donna’. Last year in New Year, Mick Fleetwood joined Neil Finn at one of his shows.

Without Buckingham, Fleetwood Mac failed to sound like Fleetwood Mac. In 1995, Buckingham made a guest appearance on one track of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Time’ album. Stevie Nicks was not part of the line-up for that record. Again, it flopped.

In 2003 Fleetwood, Buckingham, Nicks and John McVie recorded ‘Say You Will’ together. It did not feature Christine McVie but had moderate success. Fleetwood Mac have not released any music with the classic line-up of Fleetwood, McVie, McVie, Buckingham and Nicks since 1987’s ‘Tango in The Night’.

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
