Never Mind The Credibility, the Sex Pistols Credit Card

The Sex Pistols having their logo on a credit card is like Morrissey endorsing Purdue chicken. It’s just not right.

The Pistols were the ultimate anti-establishment band so, to have them pseudo-endorsing such an establishment product as a credit card, seems to go completely against image.

It’s all coming about via a connection to their original record company, Virgin, whose brand will appear on the cards that will be issued through MasterCard in Britain. Richard Branson owns the Virgin empire including the bank Virgin Money. Director of cards Michael Greene told the Guardian “In launching these cards, we wanted to celebrate Virgin’s heritage and difference. The Sex Pistols challenged convention and the established ways of thinking – just as we are doing today in our quest to shake up UK banking.”

Virgin Money is also using the catchphrase “Time for consumers to put a little rebellion in their pocket.”

A total of three styles will be available, two based on their album Never Mind the Bollocks…Here’s the Sex Pistols and a third that carries the graphics from the single Anarchy in the U.K.
