14 more Australian acts have been added to the SXSW showcase roster for 2020 with nine out of 14 coming from Melbourne and once again demonstrating up a complete fuck up the New South Wales music industry has become under Premier Gladys.
New South Wales 19th century lock-out laws have stifled the local music industry but it should always be noted that the laws do not apply to the Packer owned Star Casino. Star has an exemption to the lock-out laws funnelling nightlife to the casino while at the same time choking the once vibrant local music industry which literally empowers corporqte over small business.
Victoria has the added bonus of Music Victoria which under Patrick Donovan’s leadership has consistently grown the local industry over the last five years and has made Melbourne, Victoria the most populated music venue city per capita in the world.
While Gladys’ fuck-up has been Victoria’s gain, it is unfortunate that New South Wales music acts have not been given the same opportunity to thrive.
SXSW has chosen Anatole, Kota Banks and Sophie Hutchings from Sydney to attend 2020. Melbourne’s additions are Alexander Biggs, Alice Skye, Batts, Cable Ties, Leah Senior, Luke Howard, Quivers, Sarah Mary Chadwick and Sui Zhen.
