Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” stays put for a tenth week at the top of the ARIA Singles chart, becoming the equal longest running No.1 for this decade, and it is now tied in equal second for longest running for this century.

The current list of longest running No.1’s this century are listed below:

12wks – Lose Yourself – Eminem (2002)
10wks – I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker – Sandi Thom (2006)
10wks – Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO (2011)
10wks – Happy – Pharrell Williams (2014)
9wks – Hips Don’t Lie – Shakira (2006)
9wks – Big Girls Don’t Cry – Fergie (2007)
9wks – Sexy and I Know it – LMFAO (2011)
9wks – Roar – Katy Perry (2013)

“Happy” also becomes the equal 22nd longest running No.1 in Australian chart history (1940 to 2014), tying with other ten-week-runners such as “Mama Mia” for Abba (1975), “Eagle Rock” by Daddy Cool (1971), “I Will Always Love You” for Whitney Houston (1993) and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” for The Platters (1959). Pharrell has also equaled the nineteen weeks accumulated by Katy Perry for her three No.1’s with the pair now equal 32nd on the list of ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles (1940 to 2014), plus he’s also on par with LMFAO who notched up nineteen weeks this decade (Katy was from two decades of No.1’s), which puts him equal at No.2 for ‘Most Weeks at No.1 this decade: 2010’s’, whilst Rihanna is only one week away with an amassed total at the top in Australia this decade with 20 weeks. Pharrell also lands the No.1 ARIA Album this week as his second album “G I R L” takes the top spot, the last time we had one artist at the top of both charts was last November when Eminem occupied both No.1’s.

Spending a third week at No.2 are Clean Bandit with Jess Glynne on “Rather Be’, which is now certified ▲ Platinum in sales, whilst up a place to a new peak of No.3 is David Guetta with Skylar Grey on his new track “Shot Me Down”, which becomes David’s sixth top three listing, whilst after peaking at No.3 last week, Sara Barielles is back down a place to No.4 with “Brave”, which is also ▲ Platinum in sales.

Entering the charts at No.5 is the second (official) single for X-Factor 2013 runner-up Taylor Henderson entitled “When You Were Mine”, which is the follow-up to his November 2013 No.1 single “Borrow My Heart” (TW-77), and with his X-Factor performances that charted, this new entry becomes his thirteenth overall, and now third Top 5 and Top 10 entry, as he hit No.2 in October of last year with his stripped-back rendition of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”.

After debuting at No.17 last week, Coldplay land their sixth Top 10 entry in Australia as “Magic” leaps up eleven places to land at No.6. The bands last top ten placing was back in December 2011 when “Paradise” cracked the ten before climbing to No.3 in mid-January 2012. Dropping down two places each are A Great Big World, Kim Cesarion and 5 Seconds of Summer to numbers seven, eight and nine respectively, whilst due to their recent Future Music Festival and SYTYCD appearances, Rudimental with Emeli Sande and Nas rise back up six places to No.10 with “Free”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Climbing one place again this week is “The Man” (HP-11) for Aloe Blacc, up to No.12, whilst Gabrielle Aplin scores her first Top 20 placing as her rendition of “The Power of Love” is up ten spots to a new peak of No.15, with Jason DeRulo leaping a massive twenty-two spots to No.17 with “Stupid Love”. Peking Duk is up nine spots to No.20 with “High”, and up only a couple of places from last weeks debut to No.24 this week is Pitbull with “Wild Wild Love”. The Chainsmokers blast into the Top 30 with “#SELFIE” which is up twenty-three places this week, whilst Christina Perri bullets twenty-seven spots to No.39 with “Human”. “Adore You” for Miley Cyrus is back up four places to No.38 thanks to Cedric Gervais remix of the track and One Direction return to the Top 100 at No.45 with the title track from their current album “Midnight Memories”, landing a new peak in the process.

DOWN DOWN: After four weeks within the Top 10, “Take Me Home” (HP-7) by Cash Cash is down three places to No.11, and now certified Gold (●) in sales, with the nine week stretch and No.2 peak for “Swing” by Joel Fletcher and Savage coming to an end as the song is down four places to No.13, with the last Top 10 dropout being “All of Me” by John Legend (HP-1×3) which is down four also, to No.14, having spent sixteen weeks within the ten. Rihanna is down eight places to No.23 with “Jump” (now ▲ Platinum), with Jason DeRulo dropping seven to No.25 with “Trumpets”. Last weeks high entry of “You’re Beautiful” for Nathaniel at No.14 drops back down seventeen places to No.31 this week, and OneRepublic drop nine spots to No.33 with the now ▲ Platinum selling “If I Lose Myself”. London Grammar drops nine also, down to No.36 with “Strong”, whilst Tiesto is down three spots to No.37 with “Red Lights” (now ▲ Platinum in sales). MKTO are down nine places to No.40 with “God Only Knows” and INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart” is down fifteen to No.50 this week.

The three highest entries are all by local acts, and as I mentioned Taylor Henderson landed the first of the three, with London based local artist Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX debuting at No.19 with “Fancy”, becoming her highest charting single here, and her third Top 100 entry overall, as she first charted with “Work” (HP-88, April 2013) and then her first Top 50 was with “Change Your Life” featuring T.I. (HP-44, Oct 2013), with this new track cracking the USA (#88) and Canadian (#85) charts this week also.

A few places lower at No.21 is Jessica Mauboy with “Never Be the Same”, becoming her seventeenth Top 50 & Top 100 singles chart entry, and now her 15th Top 30 placing. She last charted in December of 2013 with the title track of her current album “Beautiful” (TW-78) which hit No.46. The final new entry to the Top 50 is in at No.47, and is the current UK No.1 single, “My Love” by Route 94 (the road between Chicago {home of techno} and Detroit {home of House}) featuring Jess Glynne, who is also at No.2 with “Rather Be” this week.

Lower 50: Jumping up twenty-nine places to No.56 is John Newman with debut solo single “Anywhere for You”, whilst Rufus re-enter at No.61 (a new peak) with their track “Take Me” (former peak #83, April 2013). Pharrell helped his former No.1 singles appearances back up the charts last week due to his FMF appearances, and this week “Get Lucky” for Daft Punk (63 to 57) and “Blurred Lines” for Robin Thicke (75 to 64) rise back up again. One Direction is on hold at No.80 with “Story of My Life”, which this week is newly certified 2x▲ Platinum in sales, whilst DJ Snake and Lil’ Jon return to their former peak of No.81 with “Turn Down for What”. Further re-entries are from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with “Can’t Hold Us” (another FMF act) at No.82, “Swing” original version by Savage at No.83, “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman at No.89, “Pompeii” by Bastille at No.93 and back in at No.97 is Katy Perry with “Firework”.

The only new entry in the lower fifty comes from DJ Cassidy, who lands at No.90 with his debut single “Calling All Hearts” featuring Robin Thicke and Jessie J as vocalists. DJ Cassidy is one of the highest paid DJ’s in the USA, having spun at such major events at Beyonce and Jay-Z’s wedding and President Obama’s 2009 inauguration. His debut album entitled “Paradise Royale” is due out in May.
