Philip Anselmo To Release First Ever Solo Album

Philip Anselmo, the former frontman for Pantera and Down, will release his first ever solo album later this month.

Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals ‘Walking Through Exits Only’ will be released independently on his own label Housecore Records on July 16.

‘Walking Through Exits Only’ will feature all of the aggression who have come to love from Philip since that first Pantera record ‘Metal Magic’ 30 years ago in 1983. The album is described as “abrasive, aggressive, anthemic and 100% Anselmo”.

“It wasn’t about doing a paint-by-numbers thrash or heavy metal record,” Anselmo explained about the project. “It’s an angry album that only I could do. I don’t see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I’m screaming about. On this album, there isn’t any wordplay, there isn’t any hidden message, it’s all right there in front of you.”

‘Walking Through Exits Only’ was produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson and recorded in New Orleans.

The Illegals are Marzi Montazeri on guitar and drummer Jose Manuel “Blue” Gonzales.
