Pink Floyd Records in continuing their reintroduction of the Pink Floyd catalog on vinyl with the release of Atom Heart Mother, Meddle and Obscured by Clouds. All three will be released on September 23.

Atom Heart Mother was the bands first album of the 70’s. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, the album hit the top of the charts in the U.K. and number 55 in the U.S. It was also the first Pink Floyd album to be recorded for quadraphonic release.

The entire first side of the album was a six part suite, Atom Heart Mother, while side two had three tracks (If, Summer ’68 and Fat Old Sun) and another multi-part piece Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast.

At the time, critics had mixed opinions on the album and, today, the members of the band have said it is not their best with David Gilmour calling it a “load of rubbish”.

Meddle was released in October 1971 and followed a similar format with side 1 being five individual tracks while side 2 was the 23-1/2 minute track Echoes.

The album did well in the U.K., reaching number 3, but Capitol in the U.S. showed little interest in the release and the album peaked at 70 on the Billboard 200. Critics were much more positive about the set when compared to the previous released, feeling that the band was finally transitioning out of the Syd Barrett era.

Obscured by Clouds came out in June 1972 and was based on the soundtrack the band had created for the French film La Vallee (The Valley). Actually recorded while they were touring in support of Meddle and while they were in the studio recording Dark Side of the Moon, the album did not receive a good reception by critics upon its release; however, fans were all in, sending the album to 6 in the U.K., 1 in France and 46 in the U.S.

Pink Floyd previously released vinyl versions of The Piper at the Gate of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, More and Ummabumma while The Wall and The Division Bell will be restocked with retailers on vinyl on August 26.
