Pink Spends 5th Week At Number One On ARIA

Pink not only stays at No.1 for a fifth consecutive week with “The Truth About Love”, but she also picks up a four x Platinum certification, and the album is now the equal third longest running chart-topper for the year. So far the list looks like this…

Gavin Ryan reports that seven Top 10 albums from seven releases for Guy Sebastian now as he debuts at No.2 with his sixth studio album “Armageddon”. The new album has the singles “Don’t Worry Be Happy” (HP-5), “Gold” (HP-10) and current single “Battle Scars” (HP-1×6, TW-3). All of his albums have reached No.6 or higher and all of them have debuted within the Top 10 and the first five albums all debuted and peaked in their first week, his ARIA Albums discography is listed below…

The yearly issue for Triple J and their “Like a Version” albums is now up to Volume 8, and the album debuts at No.3 becoming the collections second highest charting album of the series and third Top 10 hit. Last year Volume 7 climbed to No.5 (TW-61) and has been charting for its entire 50 weeks. Below is a look at how the past editions have done (Volume 2 didn’t chart).

Birdy and her self-titled album drops back two places to No.4, and with two high debuts, they also push “Babel” for Mumford and Sons down two spots to No.5. “Mythology” for the Bee Gees is up four places to a new peak of No.6. “The Sapphires” soundtrack drops two places to No.8, “North” for Matchbox 20 is down a place to No.9 and halving itself from last week is “The 2nd Law” for Muse, down five places to No.10.

In August 2009 Lisa Mitchell debuted and peaked at No.6 (for two weeks) with her first album “Wonder”. This week she debuts at No.7 with her second set “Bless This Mess”, the title track recently charting and peaking at No.92.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Maroon 5 did a show in Melbourne last week and their new single enters the chart this week, so their current album “Overexposed” (HP-4) rises back up five places to No.11. The Black Keys are touring Australia from 21st to 31st of October, and the newly released tour edition of “El Camino” (HP-3) jumps back up eight places to No.18 this week. David Guetta’s “Nothing But the Beat 2.0” (HP-25) is back up seven places to No.28, and as it’s now under $10, Cold Chisel’s “Best of – All for You” (HP-2) is up seven places to No.36.

DOWN DOWN: Tame Impala and “Lonerism” drops eight places to No.12, Kiss and their “Monster” album is down sixteen spots to No.23, whilst the third Top 10 dropout is “Museum” for Ball Park Music, down twenty-four places to No.33.

“Uno!” for Green Day drops eleven places to No.25, Something for Kate see their “Leave Your Soul to Science” album fall seventeen spots to No.29, and The Killers are down eleven places to No.31 with “Battle Born”. The Temper Trap and Timomatic with their self-titled albums are down fourteen and nineteen places to No.35 and No.46 respectively.

The fifth album for US pop-punk band All Time Low debuts at No.13 and becomes the bands third album to chart here in Australia. Their third album “Nothing Personal” made it to No.71 in July 2009, whilst their last chart entry also debuted at No.13, “Dirty Work” (June 2011).

Aussie Hip Hop MC Urthboy (Tim Levinson) sees his fourth album “Smokey’s Haunt” lands at No.14 becoming his highest charting album so far. His second and third album have previously charted in the lower fifty, with “The Signal” (HP-65, July 2007) and “Spitshine” (HP-54, Sept 2009) being the previous two.

English singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding debuts at No.16 with her second album “Halcyon” featuring the current single “Anything Could Happen” (TW-46), unfortunately her first set “Lights” didn’t chart here in Australia. And another UK singer/songwriter who debuts at No.21 is Natasha Khan who goes by the stage name Bat for Lashes. Her third album “The Haunted Man” is her second album to chart here, with her second set “Two Suns” having reached No.95 in late April of 2009.

The fourth studio album for Evermore debuts at No.40 entitled “Follow the Sun”, and in at No.45 is “Vital” for Anberlin, the sixth album for the US alternative rock band. This becomes the bands second Top 50 album, their September 2010 album “Dark is the Way. Light is a Place” debuted and peaked at No.41. This is now their fourth album to chart in Australia.

Lower 50: Labrinth’s recent visit helps his album “Electronic Earth” up thirty-two places to No.52, and up twelve places to a new peak of No.63 is Alt-J with “An Awesome Wave”. “Believe” for Justin Bieber is back up nine places to No.64 thanks to the new single, and albums returning to the Top 100 include “There Will Be Love” (HP-4) for Adam Brand at No.79 and with the new DVD release of “Rock of Ages” (HP-4) the soundtrack is back in at No.80. “Here” (HP-37) for Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes returns at No.87 and Chet Faker is back in at No.96 with “Thinking in Textures” (HP-67)

Bertie Blackman’s previous album “Secrets and Lies” made it to No.49 in May 2009, and her new album “Pope Innocent X” this week debuts at No.54. The eleventh studio album for Ben Harper entitled “By My Side” debuts at No.57, and Sydney five-piece band The Strangers (not the 60’s Oz group) see their debut album “Persona Non Grata” debut at No.67.

Martha Wainwright debuts at No.77 with “Come Home to Mama”, Brisbane act Art of Sleeping are in at No.95 with their “Like a Third” five-track EP, their first chart entry, and finally in at No.99 is Xzibit with his seventh album (and first in six years) “Napalm”. So we have “Armageddon” at No.2 and two from the bottom (at 99) we have “Napalm”.
