Canadian producer Todd Simko, best known for his work with Australia’s Xavier Rudd as well as Macy Playground, has died at the age of 45, presumed drowned.
Friends say they witnessed Todd in the river near his home and reported that he was taken under by the current. Vancouver police say the body may never be found.
Simko was the guitarist in Vancouver band Pure. They had a 1992 Canadian hit with ‘Blast’ from their Purefunalia album, produced by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads.
Todd produced three albums for Xavier Rudd, ‘Solace’ (2004), ‘Food In The Belly’ (2005) and Xavier’s live record ‘Good Spirit’.
Todd’s wife Minna has also reached out to fans via Facebook saying “I decided to post on this site to share a great loss in the music community and my family. Todd may your soul be finally at peace. You are not only the most fantastic father and husband one could have, but also you were a great friend, musician, teacher, guide, mentor, and music engineer. You will never never ever ever be forgotten and your spirit will always live on with all the wonderful lives you have touched… ”
