Queensland Bluesman Wiley Reed Dies At 68

US born, Australian based bluesman Wiley Reed has passed away at the age of 68.

Reed was born in Jacksonville, Florida and started singing in his local church choir at the age of 9. At 15 he studied piano.

Wiley Reed played numerous styles including blues, jazz, rock and country.

In 1967 he visited Australia for the first time, met the woman he later married and adopted Australia has his home.

In 2003 he won three Queensland Recording Association Sunnie Awards for the album ‘Straight From The Heart’. He has also won the Best Blues Artist at the Gold Coast International Jazz and Blues Festival multiple times.

Reed was booked to appear at the Goodna Jacaranda Festival near Ipswich later this month.
