Padraig Duggan, a founding member of Celtic group Clannad, has died at the age of 67.

Clannad was Ciaran, Pol and Moya Brennan and their uncles Noel and Padraig Duggan.

Moya announced her uncles passing in a tweet stating, “My dear uncle and Clannad member Padraig Duggan passed away peacefully this morning. Rest in Peace Padraig.”

Clannad formed in Gweedore, Ireland in 1970.

Between 1973 and 1997 released 15 albums before disbanding but then reformed for concerts in 2011 and a new album ‘Nadur’ in 2013.

The Clannad influence was felt in the movie ‘Titanic’ with James Horner basing his soundtrack around the band’s sound. U2’s Bono is a huge fan of the band.

Enya is Padraig’s neice (and the Brennan’s younger sister).

Clannad won a Grammy Award for their 1998 album ‘Landmarks’.

Padraig and his twin brother Noel were born on 23 January 1949. Padraig’s cousin Leo Brennan, father of the Clannad Brennan’s died only weeks ago.

Padraig is survived by his wife Jan. His funeral will be held at St Marys Chruch, Berrybeg on Thursday.
