Radiohead Burn The Witch Video Reveals Winners

Radiohead has announced the winners of their A Moon Shaped Pool competition. When Radiohead’s latest album A Moon Shaped Pool was released on vinyl in June, independent record stores all over the world took part in Radiohead: Live from A Moon Shaped Pool.

The band selected a stream of tracks from the album to play in-store and there was then a stream of their performances from their shows at London’s Roundhouse in May.

As part of the day, a competition took place, open to anyone who attended. There were over 10,000 entries and the six winners have been revealed through a typically idiosyncratic video.

The prizes announced included 35mm print of Paul Thomas Anderson’s video for “Daydreaming,” a limited edition screen print of Stanley Donwood’s “Wraith” (the album’s cover art), a special Radiohead disc inscribed with the name of the lucky record store, and a set of one of a kind figurines that appeared in the music video for “Burn the Witch.”

Radiohead used the style of their “Burn The Witch” video that was released in May and was produced by Chris Hopewell, who has worked with bands as diverse as Scissor Sisters to Franz Ferdinand. The video sparked controversy on release. The son-in-law of Gordon Murray, who created the original characters as seen in the 1966 children’s series, Camberwick Green, claimed that the video infringed on the copyright for the series.

Burn The Witch dropped somewhat out of the blue in May. Similarly, Radiohead album releases are closely guarded, highly secretive affairs. A Moon Shaped Pool landed in May, but digitally only. The album dropped on vinyl and CD a month later on June 17. September will see a deluxe edition featuring an individual piece of the master tape for every buyer.
