Aretha Franklin’s music has taken over the U.S. and Australian charts with the Queen of Soul owning the Top 5 positions in the iTunes singles chart today in America and 21 songs in the Top 100.

Aretha also has 19 albums in the US iTunes Top 100.

In Australia Aretha Franklin has 15 songs in the Top 100 singles and 19 albums in the Top 100.

The most popular song in both Australia and America is ‘Respect’. The 1967 classic was written by Otis Redding and produced by the legendary Jerry Wexler. Redding recording the original version in 1965. Aretha added the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. part in her version two years later.

The “sock it to me, sock it to me” part was also an idea from Aretha and her sister Carolyn. Carolyn and her other sister Erma Franklin sing the line on their sister’s version.
