Last night (June 6, 2012), Simple Plan played a solid performance at the University of Wollongong’s Uni-Hall for the first time ever. Fans filled the floor after ‘We The Kings’ played their set and at 9:00, on the dot, Simple Plan started their performance. They played a full hour and a half show, continuing to retain the audience on their feet for the whole set. The band engaged the crowd by asking them questions, chatting amongst each other, bring out dozens of beach balls and of course, playing their music.

When the lights went out to start Simple Plans set, on the stage three enormous LCD screens lit up with stock footage of band member’s silhouettes and a fast past light show. The band started the night with a hit single off their second album called “Shut Up”. Right from the start the crowd was charged with enthusiasm, bobbing to the beat of the song and singing along to the lyrics. Throughout the night Simple Plan played songs from all four of their studio albums; “No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls” through to ‘Get Your Heart On!”

Towards the middle of the night, Simple Plan played a mash up of three well-known pop songs, ‘Moves Like Jagger’ (Maroon 5), ‘Dynamite’ (Taio Cruz) and ‘Sexy and I Know It’ (LMFAO). They also created their own medley with songs from their first studio album, ‘No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls.’ The medley included, ‘Worst Day Ever’, ‘When I’m With You’, ‘My Alien’, ‘You Don’t Mean Anything’, and ‘God Must Hate Me’.

To finish the night, Simple Plan played one of their biggest hits, ‘Perfect’, Pierre starting the song with an acoustic guitar and halfway through the song, the band came back to bring an end to the night. It was a perfect end to a perfect night.

Simple Plan … simply perfect.

Remaining dates for the Australia tour are:

REVIEW: David Gray, Melbourne, April 5 2015

David Gray is one of those rare performers where it is just as much about the sound as the song. Gray is a totally unique performer who can perform a setlist from the obscure to the hits and still hold the audience.
