Kaya Nicole hails New Rochelle, New York and describes herself as an indie soul artist. You will find her performing under the Kaya Nicole name but also with A Bossa Nova band Little Cachaca and funk/soul/hip hop outfit Uptown Lovhers.
In her own words, the album will be ”…a mix of soul and contemporary folk, interspersed with poetry I’ve written since I was a child. It’s like my older, more mature self expressing the feelings I kept bottled up as a child. It’s a contrast of who I was with who I yearn to become…“
As a writer Kaya has been published in the political theory journal ‘The Oculus’ at the University of Virginia. Her book of poetry “E Nunca Volte: Stories of Terra Vermelha,” is coming soon.
