Roger Waters Wants To Perform The Wall On Mexican Border

by Paul Cashmere on February 22, 2017

in News

On July 21, 1990, Roger Waters performed the Pink Floyd album The Wall in Berlin, Germany to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall eight months earlier.

Now, Waters is considering another performance but, this time, for a wall that has yet to be built, the one threatened by Donald Trump along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Waters has made anti-Trump statements in the past, He has projected Trump on the giant screens behind him at shows in comment on his policies which Waters considers far-right.

Roger recently said that The Wall is “very relevant now with Mr Trump and all of this talk of building walls and creating as much enmity as possible between races and religions … There will first need to be an awakening against these far right policies. The sewers are engorged by greedy and powerful men as I speak to you. Music is a legitimate place to express protest, musicians have an absolute right, a duty, to open their mouths to speak out.”

Meanwhile, Nick Mason has raised the idea of Pink Floyd possibly reuniting to play Glastonbury. Mason told The Guardian “I don’t think it is very likely but yes, I would do it given the opportunity”.

As far as Gilmour and Waters, Mason recently told Waters “I heard he’d retired and then he seemed to unretire, so we don’t know.” Waters also said that the prospect was “boring”.

A retrospective of Pink Floyd will open at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in May.

The Damned released the first ever UK punk single, “New Rose” off album Damned, Damned, Damned, in 1976, and were often overshadowed by their English punk counterparts. Now in their late sixties and still touring world-wide, featuring the original line up of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Paul Gray, they are the ones having the last laugh and have left their old rivals for dead, in certain respects, quite literally!
