Influential hard-rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 64.

The Montrose Band featured a young lead singer by the name of Sammy Hagar. It was where Sammy first made his name. Sammy featured the original Montrose band years later in 1997 on his ‘Marching To Mars’ a;bum.

Ronnie Montrose worked with Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs and Edgar Winter Group as well. He played on Morrison’s ‘Tupelo Honey’, ‘Saint Dominics Preview’ and ‘The Philosophers Stone’. Gary Wright’s ‘Dream Weaver’, The Neville Brothers ‘Uptown’ and Nicolette Larson’s ‘In The Nick Of Time’.

In late 2009 Ronnie confirmed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He died on March 3, 2012.
