The Aussie rock legend reached number 12 with his ‘Bloodstone’ album in 1971. That album featured his Top 10 hit ‘Sweet Sweet Love’.

‘Sharkmouth’ was a labour of love for Morris. Each song is the story of one of Australia’s colourful characters of the 1920s and ‘30s like gangster Squizzy Taylor, boxer Les Darcy and Sydney’s ‘Mr Eternity’.

Russell recruited a few mates for the project. Jim Keays of the Masters Apprentices co-wrote ‘Black Dog Blues’. The album also features Troy Cassar-Daly, Renee Geyer, Chris Wilson and Diesel. Producer Mitch Cairns on bass, Shannon Bourne on guitar and Adrian Violi on drums are the backbone of the band.

Russell Morris has been working on ‘Sharkmouth’ for the past three years and (pardon the pun) couldn’t get a bite from any of the major record companies. When former Warner Music Australia Managing Director Robert Rigby heard the album he signed Russell to his new album Fanfare and ‘Sharkmouth’ became available across Australia.

Upon hearing the chart position news overnight Robert Rigby told Noise11, “How amazing – Russ shoots up 28 to 17 on ARIA TONIGHT”.
