Sam Smith has made it his objective to demonstrate the prevalence of homophobia.

The 23-year-old Stay With Me singer has been openly gay throughout his career.

And on Tuesday Sam shared a screenshot he took of an Instagram account in which someone uses derogatory language by referring to him as a ‘f****t’.

‘This genuinely doesn’t offend me, coz I’m way too tick skinned when it comes to this kind of sh*t. BUT I just wanted to share this with everyone, so you can see how homophobia is still SO PRESENT in our society!! (sic),’ Sam wrote in a caption attached to the screenshot.

The Instagram account image the four-time Grammy-winner shared is called @gaysamsmith and the profile is filled with spite against homosexuals. The headline for the @gaysamsmith profile reads: ‘WE HATE F****T SMITH’. And the account’s description is equally hateful, with the text reading: ‘there is a f*g, his name is sam. when he’s on, I like to cry. he is gay but that’s okay, we can all make fun of him (sic)’.

The odious Instagram account has not posted any images yet, but it has already amassed a total of five followers.

Sam has spoken previously about his experience being bullied for his sexuality in the past.

‘When I moved to London I got punched in the neck walking back from work. It was definitely homophobic,’ he recalled to British newspaper The Sun. ‘I was on the phone speaking quite loudly and had pink headphones on so it was pretty clear I was gay.

‘The toughest time for me was my first year in secondary school when I hadn’t come out as gay. It was actually the denying of being gay that was getting me bullied.’
