The Hollywood Reporter reports that the band’s attorney has sent a cease and desist letter to the Republican candidate’s election campaigners because he used the 2009 Silversun Pickups tune ‘Panic Switch’ during an event.

Singer and guitarist Brian Aubert sees the irony of the song choice, saying in a press release, “While he is inadvertently playing a song that describes his whole campaign, we doubt that ‘Panic Switch’ really sends the message he intends”.

The Romney camp has replied, and stated that the song was played before the candidate showed up, it’s covered under their license anyway, they won’t play it again, and it was probably an accident because of course they wouldn’t use ‘Panic Switch’ deliberately. They did not clarify whether it was due to the title or the fact that they hate the song.

Meanwhile, famous DJs rally for President Obama.

Have a listen to ‘Panic Switch’ below and make up your own mind whether it could work as the soundtrack for fiscal and social conservatism.
