Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth will attend the Melbourne Writers Festival in August to speak at the literary breakfast.

Kim was bass player for Sonic Youth, New York’s Noise Rock band that formed in 1981 and disbanded in 2011. In 2014 she published her first book ‘Is It My Body? – Selected Texts’ and the following year ‘Girl in a Band: A Memoir’.

‘Girl in a Band: A Memoir’ told Kim’s story from her childhood in Rochester, New York through to the history of Sonic Youth and eventual break-up of the band and her divorce from Sonic Youth co-founder Thurston Moore.

In 2018 Kim received an Honorary Doctorate from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

Her latest music project is Body/Head with Bill Nace. Their second album ‘The Switch’ was released in 2018.
