Peter Chellew, Executive Officer of The Push, put these words together on behalf of the board of The Push to acknowledge the passing of one of Melbourne’s greatest musicians this week:

“The board and staff of The Push would like to acknowledge the sad passing of Greg Ham and pass on our condolences to Greg’s family and loved ones.

“Greg Ham was the Chairman and fearless leader of The Push through most of the 1990s. He joined The Push after having ridden the wave of international stardom through the success of Men At Work. Greg certainly provided the ‘wow factor’ at that time when we were making representations to government and other funding bodies to get more support for youth music.

“Greg was well respected in the music industry but there was definitely no big rockstar ego with Greg. He was a really approachable and likeable guy, an inspirational character always with a big grin on his face and good pat on the back for you.

“Greg was passionate about helping young people get their start in music. He quietly went about making a contribution to help our young people get their start in the music industry. He helped The Push like this ny being an inspirational mentor to young people and by leading our organisation in the right direction.

“We searched the Push archives and have located a beautiful pic of Greg from around 1993-4 during his time at The Push, which I have attached for you”.
