Taylor Swift Says She Doesn’t Control Public Tastes

Taylor Swift would never be so ignorant to think she could have power over whether people like her or not.

The 25-year-old has been riding high in the charts for a number of years with recent smash hits including Bad Blood and Shake It Off boosting her profile even further. She’s spent much of this year (15) performing to sell out crowds during her 1989 World Tour but the singer realises her success could end in a heartbeat.

“The public could change their minds about me tomorrow,” she told Vogue Australia. “Things are good right now but I’m never going to be stupid, foolish or ignorant enough to think I have control over the public. All I can control is making good music.”

Taylor convinced her family to move to Nashville, Tennessee from their hometown of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania when she was just 14 so she could pursue her music career. Her second album Fearless in 2008 helped her breakthrough internationally and she has gone from strength to strength ever since. But the singer would never take her dream coming true for granted, and that helps keep her focused.

“I am so lucky that people seem to like me right now but in no way, shape or form, is that a permanent thing,” she continued. “I think being aware of that is what keeps you on the game.”

Taylor’s tour will finish in Australia in December (15) after 85 shows. Once it’s done, she admitted earlier this month (Oct15) to NME that she might go on a mini hiatus so people don’t get bored of her.

“I think I should take some time off,” she said. “I think people might need a break from me. I’m going to hang out with my friends. Write new music. Maybe not write new music. I don’t know.”
