Alongside Madness and The Specials, The English Beat were pioneers of the second wave of ska in the late-‘70s, bringing in elements of reggae, pop and 2-tone.

Band leader Dave Wakeling says, “I liked the exhilaration of punk and the hypnotic quality of reggae, and I was sure you could combine them into something … hypnotic, but rhythmic and danceable too”

And they did, scoring hits with ‘Mirror in the Bathroom’, ‘Save It For Later’, ‘Can’t Get Used To Losing You’, ‘Hands Off She’s Mine’ and ‘Too Nice To Talk To’.

The English Beat reformed in 2009, and now they bring their breezy, danceable sounds to Australian and New Zealand stages for the first time in August and September.
