The Madden Brothers, Joel and Benji Madden, enter at the top of the ARIA Albums chart with their debut album “Greetings from California”.

The album becomes the brothers second chart-topper, as their former band Good Charlotte spent a week at the top almost ten years ago with “The Chronicles of Life and Death”, which spent a week at the top on 11-October-2004.

Greetings from California” becomes the 715th No.1 album in Australia (1965 to 2014) and the 566th for ARIA (1983 to 2014), whilst its also the 364th album to debut at No.1 here, plus the eighteenth album to enter at the top of the ARIA Albums chart this year, plus it’s also the fifteenth No.1 album for the Capitol record label, and the second this year as the self-titled album for 5 Seconds of Summer was the other back in early July.

It’s the sixth No.1 album with the word ‘from’ in its title, whilst it’s the first ‘Greetings’ to make it to the top (the previous highest ‘Greetings’ to chart was Bruce Springsteen’s first album “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.”, which finally charted in 1985 reaching No.71). It’s the second album with ‘California’ in its title to reach the top, the other being The Eagles back in January 1977 with “Hotel California” which stayed atop for twelve straight weeks.

The Madden Brothers’ album is the 259th by an American act to hit No.1 here in Australia, and the eighth this year, and the brothers are the 143rd American Act to reach the top, plus they become the eleventh duo to hit the top of the ARIA Albums chart, plus the fourth duo from America, the other three being Simon & Garfunkel, The Carpenters and earlier this year MKTO. So far “Greetings from California” has charted two singles, “We are Done” (HP-1, TW-28) and new single “Dear Jane” (TW-57).

Landing his second successive No.2 debut is Slash, again with Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators, who all debut with their new set “World on Fire”. At the end of May 2012 they debuted and peaked at No.2 with “Apocalyptic Love”, with this new set becoming the third Top 10 and fifth Top 100 entry for Slash. Rising back up three places to No.3 is Sam Smith (current UK No.1 album) with “In the Lonely Hour”, and dropping back down two places to No.4 is Jimmy Barnes with his recent No.1 “30:30 Hindsight”.

The third and final Top 10 debut comes in at No.5, Megan Washington with her second album “There There”. It also becomes her second Top 5 album, as her August 2010 set “I Believe You Liar” debuted and peaked at No.3. Last weeks No.1 debut for Vance Joy, “Dream Your Life Away” drops down to No.6 and falling four places to No.7 is Ariana Grande with “My Everything”.
