The Seekers have an album in the Australian Top 10 and Zoot are back in the vinyl chart. In an era of BTS and Billie Eilish, heritage acts are proving they have dollar value too.

When you include Queen, led by 71-year old Brian May, four of the albums in this week’s Australian Top 10 are by artists in the 70s.

All four members of The Seekers are in the 70s. Judith Durham is 75, Athol Guy is 79, Keith Potger is 78 and Bruce Woodley is 76.

1995 ARIA Hall Of Fame inductees The Seekers release the live album, Farewell. Recorded in Melbourne in 2013 during the quartet’s Golden Jubilee tour, it’s their first chart entry since compilation album The Golden Jubilee Album (#10 Dec. ’12).

Zoot ‘Just Zoot’ is at number 13 on the Vinyl Chart. The original album peaked at number 12 in 1970.

‘Just Zoot’ was the debut album for Zoot, featuring Rick Springfield, Daryl Cotton, Beeb Birtles and Rick Brewer. Springfield is four months of 70. Bass player Beeb Birtles, who went on to become a founder of Little River Band, turned 70 in November, 2018.

Last week, 70-year-old Russell Morris debuted at number 12 with ‘Black and Blue Heart’.

Two weeks ago, 70-year-old Joe Camilleri debuted at number 11 with ‘Citizen John’.

At 72, songwriting legend Brian Cadd had a hit album with ‘Silver City’.

Russell Morris, Joe Camilleri and Brian Cadd are about to tour Australia as part of the Apia Good Times tour of 2019.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
