Chet Faker ‘Talk Is Cheap’ was the number one song on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2014.

Triple J’s Music Director Richard Kingsmill says of the song, “Talk Is Cheap dropped right at the start of 2014. By year’s end, it was still sounding as fresh as the first day we played it. Chet played and produced the whole album himself (bar one guitar solo). The way the sax starts the song is just magical and sucks you right in. The song sounds simple, until you hear all the instruments and voices at work. You’re kept there right until the end, when Chet Faker’s layered vocals bring the song to a fitting close.”

Melbourne’s Chet Faker had three songs in the Top 10 along with ‘Gold’ at no 7. and ‘1998’ at no 8.

Adelaide was also represented twice in the Top 10 with Hilltop Hoods ‘Cosby Sweater’ at no. 3 and Sia ‘Chandelier’ at no. 9.

Peking Duk also gave Canberra wto Top 10 appearances with ‘High’ at no. 2 and ‘Take Me Over’ at no. 5.

Triple J has officially acknowledged that Taylor Swift will not be included in the Hottest 100 and with good reason. They don’t play Swift.

Media site Buzzfeed attempted to ambush to Triple J Hottest 100 by manufacturing a social media campaign to have the country popstar included in the countdown but the campaign.

Swift fans were into social media combat mode accusing Triple J of snubbed the country-tinged popstar from its annual countdown. Triple J has stood firm on only including artists they play and Swift is definitely not a Triple J artist.

As the countdown got underway Triple J advised that Swift was disqualified from being included as to cave in to the Buzzfeed campaign would open the floodgate in future years from popstar street teams to sabotage the countdown.
