The new U2 album ‘Songs of Innocence’ will be available free on the new iPhone6.
Apple estimates that the U2 album could automatically become the biggest album of all-time with over 500 million iPhones expected to be sold with ‘Songs Of Innocence’ included.
The album will also be available commercially through iTunes on October 14.
‘Songs of Innocence’ is U2’s 13th studio album. The record pays homage to U2’s early influences like Johnny Cash and The Ramones. U2 performed the song ‘The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)’ at the launch.
In an interview with Rolling Stone this week Bono told Gus Wenner, “We wanted to make a very personal album,” Bono explained. “Let’s try to figure out why we wanted to be in a band, the relationships around the band, our friendships, our lovers, our family. The whole album is first journeys — first journeys geographically, spiritually, sexually. And that’s hard. But we went there.”
All of the songs for the album were written by Bono and The Edge with production by Danger Mouse, Ryan Tedder, Flood, Declan Gaffney and Paul Epworth.
