Velvet Revolver reformed for their first show since 2008 on January 12 for a benefit for the late John O’Brien.

Composer and music supervisor O’Brien was found dead at age 45 in a hotel room in Chicago last August. He was the film composer for ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Pineapple Express’.

Velvet Revolver guitarist Dave Kushner rang around the old band members and even managed a “yes” from estranged singer Scott Weiland. Weiland joined Kushner, Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum for a four-song set for at the House of Blues in West Hollywood on Thursday.

Velvet Revolver performed ‘Sucker Train Blues’, ‘she Builds Quick Machines’ and ‘Slither’ as well as a cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ which someone in the audience captured on their phone and uploaded to YouTube.

Velvet Revolver insist this performance was a one-off for an old friend/

The show also featured Maroon 5, Tom Morello, Sheryl Crow and Stephen Stills.
