Weezer have been putting the foundation of their next album together and it may be called ‘Black’, but then again, maybe it won’t.
Weezer bass player Scott Shriner told Noise11.com, “There is always something in the planning. We have started out on a certain course and changed our plans many, many times. I’ve been told ‘this is going to be the next record’ and then none of those songs make the album. Anything is possible. There is another batch of songs but we are still focusing on ‘Pacific Daydream’.”
Weezer have had colourful album titles over the years. 1994’s ‘Weezer’ is referred to as ‘The Blue Album’. 2001’s ‘Weezer’ is called ‘The Green Album’. 2008’s ‘Weezer’ is ‘The Red Album’ and 2016’s ‘Weezer’ is ‘The White Album. The next album is rumoured to be another self-titled album dubbed ‘The Black Album’.
“It would be nice,” Scott says. “I’d love to put out an album every year. It could be called Black but we have had a lot of ideas in the past that have got changed”.
The likelihood of a 2018 album is strong, considering how prolific Weezer has been in recent years. In 2014 they released ‘Everything Will Be Alright In The End’, 2006 saw the release of ‘The White Album’ and 2017 gave fans ‘Pacific Daydream’.
Weezer are yet to debut any songs from the potential ‘The Black Album’ at this stage.
