Why The Voice Is A Piece of Crap And Should Be Treated As Such

Why are people in the music industry even watching that piece of crap called The Voice? The Voice, like Australian Idol before it, is a shallow TV template that is designed to generate ratings for TV and revenue for production houses, not careers for artists.

More money is made from SMS votes than music sales. No money from either goes back to the contestants who perform those songs. In fact the people most out of it are the judges who are promoting their own new releases.

Keith Urban ‘The Story So Far’ album sold 6,777 units last week and around 11,000 the week before. Seal ‘Hits’ sold 2247 units last week. The biggest selling singles artist involved with the show was Delta Goodrem. Her ‘Sitting On Top Of The World’ single sold 12,317 units last week. The bloke from Good Charlotte should sack his PR company. He is selling ziltch.

The Voice is a cheesy attempt at pretending to be a music show. It is what is wrong with the music industry. And not just here, everywhere. Look at the judges. They are cardboard cut-out replicas of the American format. Delta = Christina, Seal = Cee Lo, Keith = Blake, that guy from Good Charlotte is that guy from Maroon 5. It is even a joke a judge level.

Image anyone actually ever thinking, “if I can prove myself to Delta Goodrem, my career is made”. That not only sounds like a comedy plot … and it is.

Someone back in the time continuum in the music industry must decided at some point that from now on “fame is something you can win fame”. The music industry then moved forward in Biff Tanner’s time continuum, not Marty McFly’s. ‘The Voice’ is just not real.

Talent comes from within, not from a 1800 number and respect can only be earned, never won.

But I’ll throw it over to my mate Brian ‘Frog’ Harris from Songland Records in Canberra for an observation about The Voice. “My perception is that Masterchef is not about cooking, DWTS is not about dancing and The Voice is not about singing. These shows are about selling the shows (and its by products) as a result-which is fine. Let’s not confuse ourselves about the real motives here. Look at all the winners of Idol and where they are now-my guess is that someone as talented as Guy Sebastian would have made it anyway-the others have careers likened to inflating a balloon with holes in it”.
