Alice In Chains was over for 14 years until William DuVall came along.

When Layne Staley died in 2002 Alice In Chains had not released a new album since 1995. The band went into hiatus after their self-titled album was Staley became a recluse, rarely leaving his home. His death looked like the end of the band as well.

Jerry Cantrell had met DuVall in 2000. He joined Cantrell’s solo band and started to sing the Staley parts of the Alice songs at Jerry’s shows. In 2006, an Alice In Chains reunion happened and DuVall was the right man for the job. Eventually, DuVall was upped to the official lead singer of the band and the first of his AIC albums ‘Black Gives Way To Blue’ was released.

DuVall is the perfect fit. At Download Melbourne he has his own style but that style is totally compatible with this band. The setlist was interwoven with DuVall and Staley era songs. Unless you knew the specific songs, the set flows seamless.

In an Ozzy Osbourne missing Download, Alice In Chains were the musical highlight. The set was generous in early era AIC, especially the first album Facelift from 1990. Likewise, the popular 1992 ‘Dirt’ grabbed five slots and a little something from DuVall’s three AIC albums kept the setlist current.

The band also features original members Mike Inez and Sean Kinney.
