Trials and Briggs aka A.B. Original have taken home the Australian Music Prize for 2017 for the album ‘Reclaim Australia’.

A.B. Original were part of an impressive shortlist competing with Big Scary, The Avalanches and Nick Cave.

The AMP was announced in Melbourne’s The Toff with an event hosted by PPCA CEO Dan Rosen and singer-songwriter Deborah Conway.

The hip-hop duo were awarded a cash prize of $30,000 from PPCA after being selected by an industry panel headed by Dave Faulkner of The Hoodoo Gurus.

The AMP Shortlist of 2017 (in alphabetical order):

The Avalanches – ‘Wildflower’
Big Scary – ‘Animal’
Camp Cope – ‘Camp Cope’
D.D Dumbo – ‘Utopia Defeated’
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – ‘Nonagon Infinity’
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – ‘Skeleton Tree’
Olympia – ‘Self Talk’
The Peep Tempel – ‘Joy’

364 Australian albums were released in 2016. The AMP narrowed down its first longlist to 61, then to nine.
