Canadian post-hardcore act Alexisonfire have broken up and it wasn’t really amicable.

The band posted a message on their website saying that they’ve split, in part due to Dallas Green focusing on his successful City And Colour side project.

Vocalist George Pettit writes that the band were effectively done in 2010 and while considering replacing Green, their guitarist Wade MacNeil also asked to leave for another band.

“Replacing one guitar player/singer/writer was something we thought possible.” Pettit writes, “but replacing two would seriously risk perverting the legacy of what we had achieved. So we took a good hard swallow and decided to end it so it would never get old and ugly.”

But he also writes, “Was the break up amicable? Not really. Was it necessary? Probably. Regardless, the members of the band are my family and I wish them nothing but good fortune.”

He goes on to thank the fans and pitches the possibility of doing a final, 10year anniversary tour.

Alexisonfire’s last three albums have gone platinum in Canada.
