Ani DiFranco Returns To Australia For The First Time In Ten Years

by Tim Cashmere on November 26, 2019

in News

American neo-folk artist Ani DiFranco will return to Australia for the first time in a decade with a quick run of shows across the country.

DiFranco founded Righteous Babe Records and self-released albums as far back as 1990, at a time when music distribution was controlled by a very small group of very large companies.

Beyond music, DiFranco is a feminist icon, champion of LGBTQI+ rights, vocal environmental campaigner and tireless advocate for racial justice, much of which has been detailed in her recent memoirs ‘No Walls and the Recurring Dream’.

While commonly associated with the loosely defined “folk” music, her music has a wide range of influences, including punk, hip hop and electronica.

The latest DiFranco release is the ‘No Walls Mixtape’ featuring appearances by country-tinged singer Amy Ray and funk saxophone legend Maceo Parker. The album is a mashup of styles and genres culminating in a sound that DiFranco can truly call her own.

Shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth add to her already announced appearance at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival.
