APIA Is The Good Times Had By All #REVIEW

Hey kiddies, once upon a time people became stars because of raw talent. The APIA Good Times is an annual reminder that talent once overruled celebrity. 2018’s slap in the face with the credibility stick featured legends Russell Morris, Brian Cadd, Leo Sayer, John Paul Young and Marcia Hines.

At the APIA Good Times tour fans heard Cadd’s Axiom classic ‘A Little Ray of Sunshine’, a song not far off 50. Russell Morris went even further back. He recorded ‘Hush’ in 1967.

APIA Good Times is a celebration of Australia’s massive talent pool. Russell and Brian were born here, Marcia and JPY started their careers here and Leo Sayer adopted us as his home, bringing his global legacy along for this part of his journey.

Each one of the acts on the 2018 line-up is a living legend. Every act has created music history and contributed to the soundtrack of our lives.

It is also incredible that every one of these legends still has a voice. That is because Russell, Leo, Brian, Marcia, JPY are musical athletes who never stopped training and therefore only got better.

The hits started with Cadd (Your Mama Don’t Dance, Let Go, Don’t They Know Its Magic and Ginger Man).

They continued with John Paul Young (with special guest Warren Morgan) (I Wanna Do It With You, Pasadena, Standing In The Rain, I Hate The Music and Yesterday’s Heroes).

Russell showcased the biggest success of his career with the recent Sharkmouth and Black Dog Blues, his early recording of Its All Over Now Baby Blue, and the classics Sweet Sweet Love and The Real Thing.

Australia now claims Leo Sayer is its own international superstar and that was proven with Thunder In My Heart, Orchard Road, The Show Must Go On and When I Need You with Marcia demonstrating why the disco era was so big along with her own dance hit Your Love Still Brings Me To Your Knees.

The APIA Good Times tour at the Palais Melbourne was one hell of party. It just needed a party animal. Luckily Ian Molly Meldrum was in the room to add the weird friend bawdy element to the recipe.

The party started when all five superstars collaborated on one each of their own classics – Brian with A Little Ray of Sunshine, Russell With Hush, John Paul Young Love Is In The Air, Marcia with You and then the whole clan knocking out Dragon’s April Sun In Cuba.

Did I mention Daryl Braithwaite was there too? What is a party with a few gatecrashers.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
