For only the second time this year an act occupies both the singles and albums No.1 spots this week, and that honor goes to Canadian rapper Drake, whose fourth album “Views” lands at the top, plus his new albums second single “One Dance” jumps up four places to take the summit on the ARIA Singles Chart this week.

“One Dance” (#2 DL/#1 Str) is the 1052nd No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2016) and the 487th for ARIA (1983 to 2016), plus the first for the Republic record label through Universal and the track which is spending its fourth week at the top of the UK Singles chart claims a Gold (●) in sales here, and gives Drake his first ever chart-topping song in Australia, as his previous highest charting song was his new albums first release “Hotline Bling” (TW-69), which peaked at No.2 back in late October of 2015.

With Drake holding the tops of both charts this week, he becomes the 124th dual #1 spot holder in this country (since 1965) and the second this year after Lukas Graham and their “7 Years” track and self-titled album held the tops of both charts on the 11th of April. This is the sixth time that the word ‘Dance’ has appeared at the top in Australia, the last was the first No.1 for Lady Gaga, “Just Dance” (1 wk on 15th Sept, 2008), and the eleventh with a ‘One’ in the title, whilst the last animal we had stationed at the top of the ARIA Singles chart (a Drake is a male duck) was back in early April of 2015 when Major Lazer teamed up with DJ Snake for “Lean on”.

Drake becomes the seventh Canadian Solo Male artist to make it to No.1 here in Australia and also the fourteenth Canadian to achieve a chart-topping single here, plus his song “One Dance” is also the 22nd song performed by an act from Canada to hit the top, the last act from Canada at No.1 being Justin Bieber in September and again in late December 2015 through to the end of January 2016 with “Love Yourself”.

Drake might have the overall No.1 single this week, but the new No.1 digital track lands at No.2 (it’s lower on streaming) and is the second teaming for Calvin Harris and Rihanna entitled “This is What You Came for” (#1 DL/#9 Str), after their first effort “We Found Love”, which debuted at No.3 in the first week of October 2011 and then climbed and stayed at No.2 for five straight weeks, plus this new song also debuts at No.2 in England this week.

Gnash and Olivia O’Brien are down one place again this week with “I Hate U, I Love U” (#4 DL/#13 Str) to No.3, whilst last weeks No.1 song for Pink in “Just Like Fire” (#3 DL/#16 Str) drops three places to No.4, but the film that its taken from “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in cinemas around the world at the end of May, so the song could climb back once the film is released. Also this becomes the fourth (of eight) No.1 songs for Pink that have only last a single week, her other ones were “Most Girls” (2-Oct-2000), “Raise Your Glass” (18-Oct-2010) and “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” (16-July-2012).

Down one spot to No.5 this week are The Chainsmokers with Daya and “Don’t Let Me Down” (#6 DL/#2 Str), which picks up a ▲Platinum sales certification and with his album just released (as of Friday) Mike Posner and “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” (#8 DL/#5 Str) are back up two places to No.6, whilst last weeks No.7 entry of “Say it” (#9 DL/#4 Str) for Flume holds steady this week. “Be the One” (#5 DL/#23 Str) for Dua Lipa peaked at No.6 last week, but it drops back two to No.8 this week and swapping places this week are last weeks #9 and #10, with “Work from Home” (#13 DL/#3 Str) for Fifth Harmony back up one to No.9 and “7 Years” (#11 DL/#7 Str) for Lukas Graham down a spot to No.10.

UP: Alan Walker and his track “Faded” (#16 DL/#6 Str) is back up to No.11 after falling out of the Top 10 last week, and the track is now 2x▲Platinum in sales, whilst jumping up seven to No.12 are Galantis and “No Money” (D14 DL/#11 Str). The current No.1 in Austria (1st wk), Germany (2nd wk) and Ireland (5th wk) is this weeks No.13, “Cheap Thrills” (#21 DL/#10 Str) for Sia which is back up one spot and current visitors to our shoes twenty one pilots climb back up two to No.14 with “Stressed Out” (#17 DL/#25 Str). Jumping into the Top 20 this week is the current US No.1 single for Desiigner and “Panda” (#22 DL/#8 Str) which here is up eighteen spots to a new peak of No.16 and right behind is Beyonce with “Formation” (#7 DL) which jumps seven spots to land at No.17, whilst “Secret Love Song” (#15 DL/#40 Str) for Little Mix and Jason DeRulo climbs two spots to score a new chart height of No.18. “Dangerous Woman” (HP-18, #31 DL/#17 Str) for Ariana Grande is back up two places to No.24 and now Gold (●) in sales, and a second Beyonce song enters the Top 50 this week. “Hold Up” (#12 DL), which leaps twenty-six spots to No.25 and Luke Christopher sees his first chart entry “Lot to Learn” (#23 DL/#33 Str) move up six places to a new peak of No.26. Also scoring Gold (●) is Alessia Cara and her second chart entry “Wild Things” (HP-25, #18 Str), which is back up four to No.29. The Adele ‘Live in New York’ TV special screened on Channel 9 early in the week helps her former No.1 “Hello” (which opened the show, #25 DL) to leap back up twenty-nine spots this week to No.36 (she has three songs re-enter in the lower fifty too) plus the judges on ‘The Voice’ sung it to open the show last Sunday night. Returning for its second week within the Top 50 is the Joe Jonas led group DNCE and “Cake by the Ocean” which jumps up sixteen places to land a new peak at No.37, and right behind them is one of last weeks Top 50 debuts, “Home” (#28 DL) for Topic and Nico Santos, which climbs eleven places to No.38. Two more of last weeks lower fifty debuts jump into the Top 50 this week, with “Do it Right” (#35 DL) for Anne-Marie up twenty-six places to land at No.47 and Kungs with “This Girl” (#36 DL) jumps twenty-two spots to make it to No.48, and thanks to The Voice coming back to our screens this week, the Madden Brothers penned (and show sung) track for 5 Seconds of Summer and “Amnesia” (#24 DL, HP-7, peaked June 2014) returns to the chart at No.49.

DOWN: The only Top 10 dropout this week is last weeks highest entry, the Prince track “Purple Rain” (HP-3, #26 DL), which this week falls down fifty places to No.53 and is one of only two tracks within the Top 100 for the purple-one this week, as his #11 return of “When Doves Cry” from last week is down sixty places to No.71. “1955” (#20 DL/#15 Str) for The Hilltop Hoods is down a few places to No.19 but is now 2x▲Platinum in sales and falling five to No.20 is Meghan Trainor’s “No” (#19 DL/#22 Str), which is now recertified ▲Platinum in sales. Flume and his former No.1 “Never Be Like You” (#30 DL/#12 Str) leaves the Top 20 for the first time in its sixteen weeks on the chart, down four to No.22 and with a heap of songs rebounding after last weeks Prince inundation, the next worthy drop to mention is for Broods and “Free” (#40 DL) which is down five to No.40.

There are two further Top 50 debuts this week, the first is new at No.42, “My Boo” (#27 DL) by Ghost Town DJ’s, a twenty year old track which is selling due to a current internet trend called the ‘Running Man Challenge’, this song being the soundtrack for the challenge. The song originally made it to No.3 (for two weeks) in August 1996 in New Zealand and No.31 in the USA (also in 1996) but didn’t chart here until now. And new at No.50 is the first taste from the forthcoming tenth studio album for Blink 182 entitled ‘California’ (due July 1st), the song “Bored to Death” (#39 DL) debuts on half-a-weeks sales and becomes the bands first chart entry since the late July 2011 track “Up All Night” (HP-30) and this becomes the bands seventeenth Top 100 entry and thirteenth 50 placing since they first charted in late May back in 1996 (almost twenty years).

Lower 50: With the high debut for the new Calvin and Rihanna track, her three other entries also climb this week, with “Kiss it Better” (HP-48, #38 DL) back up twenty-three places to No.51 and her latest single “Needed Me” is up fourteen spots to a new peak of No.61, whilst “Work” (#21 Str) climbs back up six to No.32. “Hair” for Little Mix climbs two places to a new peak of No.58 and the Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar teaming “Freedom” (#33 DL) rises five places to land at a new chart height of No.62, and her “Sorry” is up four to a new peak of No.74.

The first track from the new Drake album “Views” was “Hotline Bling” (HP-2), which returns at No.69 this week, whilst the albums third release “Pop Style” is back up six to No.93. But Adele has three returning tracks this week thanks to her ‘Live in New York’ TV special screened earlier in the week, with “When We Were Young” (HP-13) returning at No.70, “Rolling in the Deep” (HP-3) at No.83 and “Someone Like You” (HP-1) back in at No.92. Further returning tracks include “Let it Go” for James Bay at No.72, thanks to it being sung on ‘The Voice: Blinds’ this week; “Low Life” for Future and The Weeknd returns at a new peak of No.96, and ZHU, Skrillex and THEY with “Working for it” is back in at No.99 and The Weeknd re-appears again at #100 with “The Hills”. AlunaGeorge also scores a new peak of No.84 this week (up three) with “I Remember” and stable at No.95 this week is the longest charting song, again going to Ed Sheeran and “Thinking of You” at 87 weeks within the Top 100.

The title track from Zedd’s 2015 album “True Colors” debuts at No.76 this week with vocals from Kesha, which becomes his seventh Top 100 entry and third from the album, and one place lower at No.77 is the second entry for Odd Mob entitled “Into You” featuring vocals from Starley, with the dance acts first entry being “Is it a Banger” (HP-78, entered Nov 2014, peaked Jan 2015).

After a few days on sale, the first taste from the forthcoming untitled Radiohead album debuts at No.81 entitled “Burn the Witch”, which becomes the thirteenth Top 100 entry for the UK act and first singles chart entry since the December 2003 single “2+2=5” debuted and peaked at No.54. Also scoring the first single from a new album is Florida Georgia Line who’s third album “Dig Your Roots” is due soon (no date known yet) and the song “H.O.L.Y.” comes in at No.94 and becomes the bands first singles chart entry here. The final new entry at No.98 is “Sex” for three piece LA tropical house act Cheat Codes who’ve teamed with six-piece Dutch act Kris Kross Amsterdam for a modern-day reworking of the 1992 No.1 single for Salt-N-Pepa “Let’s Talk About Sex” (26-Jan, 1992 for four weeks), taking the chorus and adding tropical house sounds and vocalizer (vocal synthesizer) melody for their interpolation.
