In the first post on their website for almost a year, the band have announced their “discontinuation”.

They posted yesterday:

“After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group. From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and goodnight.”

The Melbourne rock band led the vanguard for the Australian retro-rock revival alongside The Vines in the early 00s, breaking through with their Iggy Pop-aping ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl?’ single, and selling 3.5 million copies of their debut album Get Born.

Through their ten years of activity, they supported The Rolling Stones multiple times, topped the Hottest 100, and joined Powderfinger on their farewell tour, selling 6.5 million copies of their three albums.

Guitarist Chris Cester and bassist Mark Wilson continue in new band DamnDogs.
