Australian Album Chart Set To Look Like A Cheap Market Stall

Green Day ‘Revolution Radio’ is fighting off competition from Triple J’s ‘Like A Version 12’ for the top spot on the Australian album chart next week but the rest of the chart is looking like a market stall.

Both Green Day and the Triple J compilation have been juggling the top spot of the iTunes chart since their release of Friday with the game too close to call at this point.

Other entries for next week’s chart will be Norah Jones ‘Day Breaks’ and OneRepublic’s ‘Oh My My’ but new music will take a backseat to catalogue with next weeks sales after the major labels flooded sales with cheap back catalogue items.

Universal has discounted albums by Taylor Swift, Amy Winehouse, The Weeknd and Sam Smith to $8.99, Justin Bieber ‘Purpose’ to $9.99, Warner has also dropped Ed Sheeran ‘X’ to $8.99 and Sony has discounted Meghan Trainor’s ‘Title’ to $8.49. Expect to see next week’s chart overrun with cheap, older titles misrepresenting the true nature of the week’s chart.
