It’s been over two months since a new No.1 song in Australia, and this week “Senorita” for Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello climbs from it’s runner-ups spot of the past four weeks to take out the top berth on the ARIA Singles Chart and score a ▲Platinum sales certificate.

“Senorita” is now the 1088th No.1 Single in Australia (1940 to 2019), the 523rd for ARIA (1983 to 2019), the 8th No.1 for 2019, the 15th for the record label Island (and their second this year after the Jones Brothers’ “Sucker” back in March), the first ever No.1 song here for Canadian singer Shawn Mendes and now the second for US singer Camila Cabello after she logged three weeks in the last weeks of November and first week of December in 2017 with “Havana”.

This is the first time that the word ‘Senorita’ has appeared in a No.1 song title and the second to chart and land within the Top 10, as Justin Timberlake took a same titled song to No.6 in early October of 2003. Shawn Mendes becomes the eighth Solo Canadian Male Artist to score a No.1 song here since the first in 1950 (Guy Lombardo), with the last new No.1 in this country also sung by an Canadian artist in the Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber duet “I Don’t Care” (1 week on 20th of May, 2019, TW-7). Overall Shawn is also the fifteenth Canadian act at No.1 here (solo, duo, group, male or female), with “Senorita” becoming the 30th No.1 song by a Canadian artist or group, plus for an American singer (in Camila Cabello) this is the 700th to hit the top by a U.S. artist.

With this also becoming the second No.1 song for Camila in Australia, she now enters the tally board for ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles’ 2010’s’ at No.28 (out of 31 acts with two or more No.1’s this decade) just behind Jason Derulo (3 No.1’s with four amassed weeks at the top). “Senorita” also climbs back to the top spot in both England and Germany (2nd week apiece) and holds again at the top in New Zealand (4th week) and Ireland (5th week) and is the No.1 streamed song locally (#3 on digital sales).

After 13 broken weeks at No.1 the track “Old Town Road” for Lil’ Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus drops to No.2 and is now 6x▲Platinum in sales, while it is now the equal second longest running No.1 of this decade and it retains it’s top spot in both America (16th week) and Canada (15th week). Local singer Tones and I played at Splendour in the Grass last weekend and her second single “Dance Monkey” swings up the within the Top 10 tree five branches to a new peak of No.3, plus the song is the No.1 digital selling track and jumps to No.4 on the streaming chart, making her (once again) the highest placed Australian act this week, plus she debuts with her third single within the Top 40 and her first entry rebounds back into the Top 20 too.

The Billie Eilish former No.1 “Bad Guy” rebounded last week thanks to a new Justin Bieber duet version of the song, this week the song is down one spot to No.4 and newly certified 4x▲Platinum in sales, while Ed Sheeran this week is back down to only two songs within the Top 10, “Beautiful People” with Khalid (4 to 5) and “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber (5 to 7), while stable in between those two Ed-tracks at No.6 is Post Malone with Young Thug on “Goodbyes”.

After leaving the Top 10 last week and falling to No.12, MeduZa with Goodboys are back up four spots to No.8 with “Piece of Your Heart” (HP-7), for a fourth week inside the Top 10, plus the song also scores a ▲Platinum sales cert too.
