The Chainsmokers and Halsey ‘Closer’ is the most streamed, the most downloaded and the most Shazam’d song in Australia this week.

What started out as a fairly average introduction to the world on American Idol has blossomed into a successful career for The Chainsmokers. That first appearance on Idol performing their hit song ‘Selfie’ two years ago almost had them laughed out of America.

There is nothing like a little Halsey cred to bring an act back into vogue and those Halsey vocals on ‘Closer’ have made The Chainsmokers respectable again.

Ashley Nicole Frangipane (no wonder she changed her name) is a 21-year old singer-songwriter from Washington, New Jersey. She released her debut album ‘Badlands’ in 2015 and reached no 2 on the US and Australian charts as well as no 9 in the UK. The album has also been Top 10 in Belguim, Canada, New Zealand, The Netherlands, and Ireland.

According to the Halsey info, “Halsey is considered a YouTube hit artist. She began by posting cover songs on YouTube under her real name. In 2012, she recorded a parody of Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” called “The Haylor Song” about Swift’s relationship with One Direction member Harry Styles, and posted it on her Tumblr account”.

Halsey also recently appeared in the TV series ‘Roadies’ playing herself.
