BB King’s Daughter Loses Power Of Attorney Case

Karen Williams, the daughter of B.B. King, entered a Las Vegas courtroom on Thursday afternoon to try and get the power of attorney for her father’s affairs from his manager, Laverne Toney.

The situation came to a head last week when another daughter, Patty King, felt that her father needed to go to the hospital but Toney would not cooperate to let it happen. Patty called the police who came to the residence and King eventually did receive hospital care. No charges were filed against Toney although his daughter wanted her to be found to be committing elder abuse.

King returned home on Friday, telling the world that he is in hospice care.

Williams and her legal advisor, Frederick Waid, would like to be made co-guardians, telling the courts that there are more than $5 million in assets at stake. The court document, originally filed on April 29, said that over $1 million of that money could not be accounted for.

On Thursday afternoon, the Clark County Family Court ruled that there was no evidence of King being abused and threw out the petition. According to sources, Toney entered court with letters from a number of medical authorities attesting to the care that King had received while Williams and Waid had no supporting evidence.

Jon Norheim, who made the ruling, stated “There is no evidence of need for guardianship. Mr. King has counsel. I don’t have anything here that says he lacks capacity. He has some serious health issues. But he has counsel. If he feels like he’s being taken advantage of, he has remedies.”

Williams has vowed to keep fighting.
