A combination of major releases and returning favorites by veteran artists lead to the third best week for vets in the last year as measured by our Veteran Artist Index.

The big winner is the first U.S. number 1 album ever for Black Sabbath with 13. The album also leads the Digital Albums, Rock Albums and Hard Rock Album tallies.

Also debuting in the top ten is Magnetic by the Goo Goo Dolls which starts at number 8 (number 2 on the Rock Albums). That gives the band four straight top ten studio albums over the last 11 years. The band’s single from the album, Rebel Beat, moves to number 20 on both the Rock Songs and the Adult Pop charts

Harry Connick, Jr. premiers at 33 on the Albums and 2 on the Jazz Albums chart with Every Man Should Know. That’s well short of his last studio album, 2009’s Your Songs, which debuted at 8 and is the lowest debut since 2001’s Songs I Heard.

The last debut by a veteran artist is the jazz album Dave Koz and Friends: Summer Horns featuring Koz, Gerald Albright, Mindi Abair, Richard Eliott.
