Blur’s abrupt cancellation of their Big Day Out performances in January not only came as a complete surprise to fans, but also to the organisers of the event.

“We were disappointed to learn of Blur’s cancellation via their Facebook page yesterday morning. We are working on replacements and will bring you new additions to the Big Day Out lineup shortly,” Big Day Out posted at Facebook.

Meanwhile Big Day Out director AJ Maddah is busy on Twitter updating the punters and says they hope to “improve the value of the ticket” with the replacement whoever that may be. “Will depend on who is available and interested. No matter what, we will try and improve the value of the ticket,” he tweeted.

Maddah has also confirmed that anyone not happen with the Blur replacement will be offered a refund.

Blur dropped their Big Day Out bombshell in the early hours of Sunday morning less than two months from the first show in January. Blur blamed the Big Day Out organisers for quitting the festival. “Not sure why they would blame festival when all everyone here has done is kiss their ass,” Maddah said. “Everyone at BDO is absolutely devastated and confused by this turn of events. We tried to get a sideshow at The Hordern in Sydney. They passed on it”.

Big Day Out will start in Auckland, New Zealand on January 17, 2014.
