Bob Dylan Serves Up Gotta Serve Somebody A Second Time

by Paul Cashmere on August 7, 2018

in News

Bob Dylan has performed his born-again classic ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’ a second time for fans in Singapore.

Dylan resurrected (pardon the pub) the song in South Korea on July 27 for its first airing since 2011.

Fun Fact: Bob has only ever performed ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’ once in Australia in Melbourne on 21 August, 1999. He has performed the song twice in New Zealand on 5 February 1986 in Wellington and 7 February 1986 in Auckland with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

‘Gotta Serve Somebody’ was from Dylan’s 19th album ‘Slow Train Coming’. The 1979 release was Bob’s first album since converting to Christianity. All of the songs were about his new spiritual direction. ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’ became his first hit in three tears and earned Dylan a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance. The studio version of the song featured Dire Straits members Mark Knopfler on guitar and Pick Withers on drums.

Bob Dylan’s Christian era spanned three albums ‘Slow Train Coming’ (1979), ‘Saved’ (1980)and finally ‘Shot Of Love’ (1981).

Dylan returned to mainstream in 1983 with ‘Infidels’, working again with Mark Knopfler acting as producer.
