Promoter David Roy Williams, who toured Albert Lee in Australia in 2018, will bring him back for 2019 with the legendary Peter Asher.

Peter Asher’s first fame came with the duo Peter and Gordon with partner Gordon Waller. Their first hit in 1964 was ‘A World Without Love’, written by Paul McCartney.

Peter’s mother was George Martin’s teacher at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His sister Jane Asher was Paul McCartney’s first fiancée.

That Beatles’ association directed Peter Asher to Apple Records where he worked in A&R after Peter and Gordon broke up in 1968. At Apple he signed the unknown American singer and songwriter James Taylor and produced his debut album for Apple. He also produced ‘Sweet Baby James’, ‘Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon’, ‘JT’ and ‘Flag’ for Taylor.

Peter also produced many of Linda Ronstadt’s epic albums including ‘Heart Like A Wheel’, ‘Simple Dreams’, ‘Living In The USA’. ‘Whats New’, ‘Canciones De Mi Padre’ and ‘Cry Like A Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind’.

In 1977 he was awarded Producer of the Year at the Grammy Awards for his work on ‘Simple Dreams’ and JT. He won another Grammy in 1989 for Producer of the year for Linda’s ‘Cry Like A Rainstorm’ and in 2002 for Best Spoken Comedy Album for ‘Live 2002’ by Robin Williams.

Peter Asher and Albert Lee have been playing shows together since 2016, showcases songs from each of their careers.
