Devo Use the F Word to Announce a Tour

by Paul Cashmere on August 7, 2019

in News

Devo are the latest act to use the F word … ‘Farewell’. Devo have announced a single date on what has been billed a Farewell Tour.

Devo will perform at Desert Daze in California sometime over the weekend of 11 to 13 October. Desert Daze have announced their line-up for the weekend but not the specific date so far. Under Devo it says ‘Farewell Tour’.

Devo formed in Akron, Ohio in 1973. The first album ‘Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!’ was released in 1978. While it only peaked at no 78 in the USA, New Zealand got it right away. The album reached no 7 there.

Australia has given Devo its two highest chart positions ever. The third album ‘Freedom of Choice’ (1980) reached no 5 in Australia, no 22 in the USA, and ‘New Traditionalists’ (1981) reached no 3 in Australia, no 23 in the USA.

Devo have only performed six times since 2015. Their last tour, the Hardcore Devo Tour, finished in California on 30 July 2019. Devo’s last Australian show was on 12 December 2012 in Wollongong.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
