Before he started The Pretty Things, Dick Taylor was a member of The Rolling Stones, even before they were called The Rolling Stones.

Ahead of the final Australian tour for The Pretty Things, Dick shared with Noise11 how The Stones became The Stones. “I can’t even tell you what the date was. It wasn’t like we went ‘lets start the Rolling Stones’”, Dick tells Noise11.com. “There was a band which we eventually called Little Boy Blue and the Blues Boys. It was (Mick) Jagger, myself and some friends and then Keith (Richards) joined it and then we met up with Brian Jones and then we started rehearsing. Then we thought we better have a name and it came out”.

The name The Rolling Stones came from a Muddy Waters song. “We had been playing ‘Rolling Stone Blues’ by Muddy Waters. The band didn’t suddenly change into the Rolling Stones. It became the Rollin’ Stones. That God we didn’t keep Little Boy Blue and the Blues Boys. It would have been interesting. The greatest band in the world Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys.

The Pretty Things took their name from a Bo Diddley song ‘Pretty Thing’ written by Willie Dixon. Willie Dixon was the bass player in Bo Diddley’s band at the time. “It came from Bo Diddley. Bo Diddley did the song,” Dick said. “His name was on a hell of a lot of songs”.
