Elbow Worshippers Flock To Melbourne’s Forum

by Paul Cashmere on October 30, 2014

in Live,News

Elbow don’t have fans, they have worshippers. Melbourne’s Forum Theatre was turned into the Church of Elbow on Wednesday night when the Manchester band performed to a mesmerized audience.

Elbow also have die-hard fans who follow them from town to town. Lead singer Guy Garvey named one of his followers who even followed him to the airport and questioned a change in setlist from one night to the next.

While the Elbow audience listen intently to every song and mouth every word Garvey comes across more as one of the blokes. There is no star aura surrounding him like the seriousness of Thom Yorke or celebrity status of Chris Martin yet Elbow. Elbow are the thinking person’s real UK band.

The show itself is 100% genuine. Instead of the string effects we have come to expect at a live show these day Elbow had two violinists.

The songs revolved mainly around the last three album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ (2008), ‘Build A Rocket Boys’ (2011) and ‘The Take Off and Landing of Everything’ (2014) but one track ‘Scattered Black and Whites’ from the debut album ‘Asleep In The Back’ from 2001 was also there. Nothing from ‘Cast of Thousands’ (2003) or ‘Leader of the Free World’ (2005) made the set.
