Festival Hall To Host The Wombats Gig

Festival Hall will play host to The Wombats upcoming Melbourne show in July.

The landmark Melbourne venue was subject to controversy in January when it was revealed that the owners would be closing to 113 year old business to make way for two 16-storey apartment towers.

Festival Hall had not been profitable as a business for years. With Melbourne’s skyrocketing housing prices, the chance to trade the failing business for a real estate goldmine was an opportunity too good to pass up.

The current Festival Hall building opened in 1956, in time for the Olympic Games in Melbourne. The original building, opened in 1915, was destroyed by fire in 1955.

Festival Hall has been a music venue since 1960. The Beatles performed at the venue in 1964.

The Wombats will perform at Festival Hall of July 19.

Other shows coming up at Festival Hall are:

Peking Duk, May 12
Angus & Julia Stone, May 19
Courtney Barnett, September 1
