Guy Sebastian Now Equals 2nd Longest No 1 Of 2012

Six weeks now at No.1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for Guy Sebastian and his “Battle Scars”, making it the equal second longest running chart-topper for 2012 alongside Flo Rida’s “Wild Ones” featuring Sia (Jan/Feb 2012).

Gavin Ryan reports that Guy also now notches up fifteen accumulated weeks at No.1, matching George Michael and Roy Orbison who have also racked up fifteen weeks at the top of the Australian charts, Roy and Guy both doing it with six No.1’s each. Guy Sebastian is now equal 44th alongside Roy Orbison on the list of ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: 1940 – 2012’.

After landing inside the Top 10 at No.7 last week upon debut, South Korean artist Psy leaps up five places to No.2 with his worldwide smash “Gangham Style”, which has now sold Gold in its two weeks on the chart, and could knock Guy off the top spot next week.

Psy’s jump up has pushed all of last weeks 2 to 6 section down one place each, with Birdy, Flo Rida, Taylor Swift and Justice Crew now down to 3, 4, 5, and 7 respectively. Also down a place and back to No.6 for a seventh non-consecutive week are Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen with “Good Time”, now spending their tenth week inside the Top 10, but only ever appearing at No.5 or 6, it’s chart run being so far 6-6-6-5-5-6-6-6-5-6. Rounding out the Top 10 at No.9 is The Script with “Hall of Fame” and Maroon 5 are at No.1 in the US and No.10 here with “One More Night”

P!nk debuts at the top of the ARIA Albums chart this week, and the second single from “The Truth About Love” is entitled “Try”, and it debuts at No.8 this week to instantly become her twentieth Top 10 single in Australia, whilst first track from the new set “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” (HP-1×1) drops dramatically this week from No.16 to No.75.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: After two weeks at No.11, Chiddy Bang’s “Mind Your Manners” drops down a place to No.12, making way for Ne-Yo and “Let Me Love You” to jump up six places and land at No.11 this week. Rita Ora is on track to score a second Top 10 single, as her latest here “R.I.P.” is up three places to No.15, but joining the Top 20 for the first time are “Incredible” for Timomatic (18 to 27) and Alicia Keys feat Nicki Minaj with “Girl on Fire (Inferno Version)” up five places to No.20.

Up one place to No.21 are Marina & The Diamonds with “Primadonna”, but jumping ten places to No.24 are Sam & The Womp with their dance hit “Bom Bom”. “I’m All Yours” for Jay Sean turns around and jumps back up nineteen places to No.28, whilst another UK act, rapper Wiley is up four places to a new peak of No.32 for his track “Heatwave”.
“Little Talks” for Of Monsters and Men is up a place to No.41, but entering the Top 50 for the first time is “Clique” by Kanye West feat Big Sean and Jay-Z, up nineteen places to No.39, and lastly up fifteen places to No.46 are the Swedish duo Icona Pop and their debut single “I Love it”.

DOWN DOWN: The only track to leave the Top 10 this week is the Far East Movement single “Turn Up the Love” (HP-8) which is down four places to No.14 after four weeks inside the top ten, two of those at it’s peak. Florence + the Machine’s “Spectrum” is down five places to No.17 and Birdy’s “People Help the People” is down six places to No.25, with Ed Sheeran and “Drunk” falling eight spots to No.31.

Rudimental’s former No.3 single “Feel the Love” falls nine places to No.37; B.o.B and Taylor Swift’s “Both of Us” drops twelve spots to No.45, but dropping the most within the Top 50 is the track “I Won’t Let You Go” for James Morrison which three weeks ago was peaking at No.13, this week it drops twenty places to No.49.

X-Factor Live: The first week of live shows for X-Factor Australia started this past week, with several songs performed on the show benefiting on this weeks chart. Judges and mentors Guy Sebastian and Ronan Keating performed their current single, helping Guy to stay at No.1 for another week possibly, Ronan’s new single “Fires” debuting at No.64.
Further songs moving up thanks to X-F performances are Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” which rises back up a couple of places to No.33; “Brother” by Matt Corby on the “Into the Flames” EP jumps back up thirty-one places to No.42. Debuting at No.35 is the first track from the shows contestants, The Collective whose version of Jessie J’s “Domino” debuts at No.35 this week. “Glad You Came” by The Wanted returns at No.90 (performed by ‘What About Tonight’) as too does “Fast Car” for Tracy Chapmen at No.69 after being performed by eliminated contestant Adil Memon.

The.Janoskians (Just Another Name Of Silly Kids In Another Nation Skip) is a Melbourne based online comedy and five-piece boy-band that started in July 2011. Their debut single “Set this World on Fire” debuts at No.22, whilst the other boy-band to debut are X-Factor’s five-piece The Collective, who enter at No.35 with their version of “Domino”.

David Guetta’s “Nothing But the Beat 2.0” (TW-36) launches another new track this week, coming in at No.27 is “Play Hard” featuring Ne-Yo and Akon as guest artists and the song features a sample of Deejay Alice’s track “Better off Alone” (HP-4, peaked late Jan 2000).. It follows on from “She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)” (HP-11) which is sitting at No.16 this week. And another dance act to debut this week is the Swedish House Mafia featuring John Martin and the track “Don’t You Worry Child” which comes in at No.40, instantly becoming their second Top 50 hit as their previous best effort was the No.31 track “Miami 2 Ibiza” (peaked late Dec 2010).

The final of six Top 50 debuts this week is the track “Beautiful” by Carly Rae Jepsen featuring fellow Canadian Justin Bieber as guest vocalist. This is taken from her second album “Kiss” which debuts at No.8 this week and she is also currently charting with her first single “Call Me Maybe” (TW-36, HP-1×5, peaked April 2012) and “Good Time” with Owl City (TW-6, HP-5×4).

Lower 50: There is only one new peaking track in the lower fifty this week, as local act British India jump up fifteen places to a new height of No.70 with “I Can Make You Love Me”, whilst right behind at No.71 Parkway Drive hold their No.71 debut from last week for “Dark Days”. Last years X-Factor finalists Reece Mastin and Johnny Ruffo climb back up to No.73 (from 77) and No.81 (from 91) respectively with their current hits “Shout it Out” (HP-1) and “On Top” (HP-14). And apart from the XF returnees of Tracy Chapman and The Wanted (mentioned above), the last returning track to the Top 100 this week is at No.99, “Firework” for Katy Perry now in its 74th week inside the T100.

As mentioned above, Ronan Keating debuts at No.64 with “Fires”, but also debuting lower down this week are Newtown, Sydney five-piece act Sticky Fingers with their first chart entry “Caress Your Soul” at No.80, helped by their current national tour. Robbie Williams enters at No.89 with “Candy” the first pop-taste from his forthcoming early November due album “Take the Crown”, and finally at No.92 is Lisa Mitchell with “Bless This Mess”, the title track of her mid-October due second album.
